but had to stop after doing a rotation diet and finding out how very sensitive I am to soy. They use soy-derived Vitamin E as a preservative in their capsules. I am sad to say that even this tiny bit of soy is enough to negatively affect my system.
If you are implementing a gluten/casein/soy free diet with an autistic child, you will probably need to remove this supplement and find a different one.
That is my only true concern and counter-recommendation for the product.

Given modern diets, most Americans don't get enough Omega 3, an essential fatty acid. This isn't a miracle drug, but it can dramatically help those that are deficient, and it's good for every person that doesn't eat at least two helpings of fatty fish per week (or get enough flaxseed).
Medical studies have indicated that Omega 3 supplementation can help with asthma, arthritis, allergies, ADD, perhaps autism, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and certainly heart attack and strokes. It has recently been added to many infant formulas, since they figured out that breast milk has a lot of Omega 3. This might explain at least part of the higher intelligence scores for breast-fed infants.
This particular blend of Omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids (EFAs) is the most-researched combination to help late-talking children. In addition, Nordic Naturals works hard to take out the fishy taste and smell.
For children, consider Pro-EFA Jr., which is the same blend but only half the size. You might also want to consider the Jr. version if you just don't like swallowing large capsules. These are manageable, but they're big.
This will show how well they've removed the fishy taste: I've given this to a child by squeezing it out of the capsules into cans of 7-up. Because it's a fat, it's visible floating in a liquid (that's why I leave it in the can), but there's little enough fishy taste so that even several capsules in just one can goes unnoticed!
I think that Omega 3 supplementation has really helped me and my children. I've reviewed the medical literature and talked to my doctor, and haven't found any reason not to use these supplements. They've even made my hair less dry, and overall, I feel healthier. Again, it's not a miracle drug, but it's a good idea.
Whatever Omega 3 blend you use, make sure that there is third-party testing to make sure that all heavy metal contaminants have been removed. One study found that supplements were even safer than eating fish, because testing guarantees that contaminants are removed. It's also a good idea to store these in the refrigerator, since any fat can become rancid eventually. It's worth getting a high-quality supplement, both for quality and to avoid those fishy burps. In my opinion, Pro-EFA by Nordic Naturals is the best.
